Pacific Highway

I left Ohope thinking about driving the Pacific Highway with Antoine who was interested to follow this route. That was not a very good idea. At least for the first two days. It was pouring rain until Hicks Bay where we spent 2 days in a motel doing nothing, apart watching 2 seasons of Hung.
Finally, the rain left and we went to East early in the morning to see the sunset from the ligthhouse.

We then continued till Tolaga Bay where we freedom camped in front of the beach.
Here is a view from the longest wharf in the southern hemisphere.

The next day, we walked the Cook's Cove walkway. This is the cove where Captain Cook replenished his supplied when he arrived in NZ.

After this sunny day, we drove to Gisborne where we spent 2 nights in a very interesting backpackers. We were greeted by 2 French guys who gave us some crepes. It was full of south American people and only 1 German (for a change). I would recommend it for the ambiance, even if it is rated 27th out of 27 on tripadvisor. That was what told us 2 guys there, we were all amused to learn this information.

After this 2 great days of relaxing near the beach, we continued our trip along the Pacific Highway to the Mahia Peninsula. The pictures speak for themselves.
